Viking Opens Booking for 2028-2029 Ocean Voyages

Viking has officially opened bookings for its 2028–2029 ocean voyages, marking a significant expansion for the company. The announcement reveals the largest ocean deployment in Viking’s history, featuring more than 700 new departure dates across 80 distinct voyages. These trips will visit 301 ports located in 84 countries spanning six continents. The new schedule includes the company’s existing fleet of award-winning small ships and introduces two new vessels to the lineup.

New Fleet Additions

The lineup for this period includes the Viking Vega and the Viking Leda. The Vega arrives in 2028, followed by the Leda in 2029. Both vessels are classified as small ships, consistent with the company’s standard. They hold capacity for 998 guests across 499 staterooms. Features include all-veranda accommodations, elegant Scandinavian design, and large public spaces. Guests can enjoy abundant al fresco dining options on board.

Expanding Global Horizons

The 2028–2029 schedule covers a wide range of geographic regions. Itineraries will span the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America, and the Panama Canal. Guests have flexibility to choose voyages ranging from eight days to extended World Voyages, with the option to combine trips for longer stays. Additional departures of the recently introduced Japan Discovery itinerary are now available.

Two other new routes have been added to the roster. One option focuses on Alaskan fjords and the Inside Passage. Another option reaches the Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa.

Cultural and Natural Highlights

Travelers on the new 15-day Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage route will journey between Vancouver and Whittier. The ship sails the Inside Passage and majestic fjords, offering chances to kayak among pristine coves and hike remote trails. Guests might spot soaring eagles, roaming bears, or breaching whales during these excursions. The voyage also includes a cultural component, connecting with Tlingit hosts who share stories and connections to the land.

The 16-day Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa itinerary departs roundtrip from Rome. Travelers will sail to Valletta to learn about the legacy of the Knights of St. John. The route extends to North African shores to explore diverse cultures before moving to Andalusia. There, visitors can view Moorish-inspired architecture, such as the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace. The trip also features stops in Provence and Corsica.

The expanded Japan Discovery route offers a 15-day roundtrip from Tokyo. This itinerary circumnavigates Japan and crosses the Sea of Japan to the Korean Peninsula. Ports of call include Niigata, Hakata, Sapporo, and Shimizu. The journey provides opportunities to experience refined geisha arts during an overnight stay in Tokyo, highlighting the country’s blend of modernity and tradition.
