MSC Cruises has announced a major shift in its Winter 2027/2028 deployment, pulling its new flagship out of the Mediterranean and repositioning it in the South Caribbean while also reassigning another ship to the Western Mediterranean. The changes, announced on August 20, 2026, affect several existing bookings, and the line says it is contacting affected guests directly.
The most significant move involves MSC World Asia, the cruise line’s newest flagship, which will now sail 7- and 14-night itineraries in the South Caribbean. Embarkation ports include Fort-de-France, Martinique; Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe; and Bridgetown, Barbados.
South Caribbean itineraries take shape
The ship’s route will hit a long list of island destinations: Castries, Saint Lucia; St. George’s, Grenada; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda; Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis; Roseau, Dominica; and Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. That’s seven ports of call across two-week sailings, with the shorter 7-night options covering a subset of those stops.

MSC has positioned MSC World Asia as a showcase vessel, and the South Caribbean deployment brings with it several signature features. The ship includes the Cliffhanger, an over-water swing thrill ride, along with what the company calls the largest Venchi chocolate experience at sea. Dedicated family attractions, entertainment venues, and open-air spaces round out the onboard offerings.
This is a notable geographic shift for a brand-new ship. Typically, a cruise line debuts its flagship in a high-visibility region like the Mediterranean or the Persian Gulf before moving it elsewhere. The company did not explain the reasoning behind the change in its announcement, though the decision to place a brand-new vessel in the Caribbean suggests it sees strong demand there for the Winter 2027/2028 season. The Caribbean has been a growth area for several major cruise lines in recent years, and MSC has been steadily expanding its presence in the region.
Western Mediterranean gets MSC World Europa instead
Meanwhile, MSC World Europa — originally scheduled to sail in the Middle East — will instead continue offering 7-night itineraries in the Western Mediterranean. The ship will sail from a selection of embarkation ports across the region, with calls planned in Barcelona, Spain; Marseille, France; Genoa, Italy; Civitavecchia, Italy; Messina, Italy; and Valletta, Malta.
The ship’s onboard experience includes the open-air World Promenade, the World Galleria, specialty restaurants, bars, and lounges, plus dining and entertainment options aimed at families.

The announcement creates some disruption for travelers already booked. Guests who had reservations on MSC World Asia in the Mediterranean or MSC Meraviglia in the South Caribbean for Winter 2027/2028 will have their bookings updated automatically. The company says it will contact those guests directly regarding any individual changes.
For passengers booked on MSC World Europa‘s Winter 2027/2028 Middle East sailings, the line is also reaching out directly. Those guests, along with their travel partners, are being offered the option to transfer their booking to another sailing or request a full refund.
MSC Cruises has not yet published revised deck plans or deck-by-deck details for the new deployments, and the company’s announcement did not address whether fares for the revised itineraries would remain at originally booked levels. The line says more information is available on its website.
